About the show:

Garcin, Inès and Estelle have been brought together in an unusual place for a reason they don't know... Very quickly, they discover that each person's role is to become the executioner of the other two... "Hell is other people"

Others may attempt to objectify me, but they cannot steal my freedom. Huis clos is at the center of Sartre's existentialism. Once Man has chosen his actions, there is no going back. Sartre pushes this idea to its paroxysm: contemplating his past life and his absence on Earth is a form of torture for our characters... Sartre wrote this one-act play in fifteen days in 1943, which he initially titled The Others.

However, considering Huis Clos as a pessimistic play would be a mistake. Huis Clos is a boulevard play with a metaphysical scope; it owes its paradoxical vocation to being, even today, in France and abroad, one of the greatest successes of contemporary French theater. Man should be able to assume responsibility for his choices for eternity. Huis Clos therefore invites us to give meaning to our lives rather than to endure them. "We always die too soon - or too late. And yet life is there, over; the line is drawn, we must add up. You are nothing other than your life" ...
