The Off Avignon festival: alternative theater and live performance festival

If you are a lover, a casual fan or a live performance enthusiast, we invite you to discover the Off Avignon festival. It is a real communion between ages, cultures and colors. This year, our theater is in the long list of exceptional places in Avignon which will host at least one show.


What is the Off Avignon festival?

The creation of the Off Avignon festival dates back to 1966 under the leadership of André Benedetto, French poet, author and theater director. Since then, with each edition, this arts and culture event continues to attract more and more crowds. This festival is said to be one of the largest festivals in terms of live performance. It also saw the light of day following the movement of the Avignon festival created a little earlier in 1947 by Jean Louis Côme Vilar. He was a French author, actor and director.


To honor its reputation, the Off Avignon festival welcomes many artists from various countries each year. You can enjoy plays, music, reading, dancing and much more. We have no less than 1000 performances for this unique festival. For this year, Avignon will also have exclusivity on certain shows since they will be performed there for the very first time.

What are the dates of the Off Avignon 2022 festival?


This year will take place the 56th edition of the Off Avignon festival . It is scheduled to be held from July 7 to 30, 2022. As always, the Off festival is an unmissable event in summer. The public who comes to attend the various performances remains very mixed and constantly evolving. These show lovers will absolutely find what they are looking for, whatever their preferences. Since June, a subscription card has been available allowing you to benefit from discounts, particularly on shows and many other advantages.


Where does the Off Avignon festival take place?


During this festival, the entire city of Avignon vibrates to the sound of the various theatrical performances. We even find the Village du Off on rue Pourquery de Boisserin which offers a multitude of activities, conferences and exhibitions. It is truly a temple dedicated to the Off festival. The start of the festivities will be launched on July 6. From there, different locations were selected to host the various festival events. We find among others La Scala Provence, the chapel of the Templars without forgetting our theater the Laurette theater Avignon. 


On display in our performance hall , around ten shows for the general public. Indeed, from contemporary theater to magic and comedy, come and discover a whole new face of live performance . Each performance only lasts on average 1 hour with suspense and good humor guaranteed. Find us at 14 rue Plaisance - 16/18, rue Joseph Vernet near Place Crillon from July 7, 2022. This new edition of the Off Avignon festival will certainly not happen without you. So don't hesitate to make an appointment without further delay.
